Azierta Webinar on the new requirements for Material Safety Data Sheets that will come into force on January 1, 2021.
They will have to be updated according to the new European Regulation that modifies Annex II of REACH.
Madrid, December 04, 2020 – Azierta professionals Marta Rodriguez (Industrial Area Director), Ana María de Castro (Industry Science Manager) and Laura Puente (Senior Toxicology Officer), have reviewed in the last webinar organized by the company the new requirements to be implemented due to the amendment in Annex II of the REACH regulation that will enter into force next January 1.
The European REACH Regulation aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment against the risk that may arise from the manufacture, marketing and use of chemical substances and mixtures.
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) provide comprehensive information on these substances, on their hazards and, as appropriate, estimate the degree of exposure to which humans and the environment will be subjected.
Safety data sheets must be updated in accordance with the new Regulation (EU) 2020/878, which amends Annex II of Regulation (EC)1907/2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), and will enter into force on January 1, 2021.
Laboratories could continue to provide safety data sheets that do not comply with the amendment to Annex II until December 31, 2022.
The webinar has provided a comprehensive review on the new requirements to be implemented in SDSs related to the inclusion of additional information on nanoforms, endocrine disrupting properties and unique formula identifiers (UFIs).
The main challenges faced by the chemical industry are related to:
- – The timeline for the implementation of the new information in SDSs, as the new regulation comes into force on January 1, 2021.
- – Despite this new regulation coming into force soon, it may be allowed to provide old SDSs until December 31, 2022.
- – More expertise is required to comply with the new requirements of the amended Annex II.
